About WakeMed Pharmacy Services

The Department of Pharmacy at Raleigh Campus provides services to all inpatient areas, the Emergency Department, and various clinics 24 hours a day.

Pharmacy Services has multiple satellite locations, including in the critical care unit, pediatric tower and operating room (OR).  These satellite locations provide expedited service for patients with urgent needs, while the outpatient pharmacy provides services to clinic and discharged patients.

The department of pharmacy embraces an integrated decentralized practice model in which pharmacists are stationed in patient care areas throughout the hospital to provide the best pharmacy services to patients and other health care providers.

In addition to order entry, the pharmacists also perform anticoagulation monitoring, pharmacokinetics monitoring and dosing, patient profile reviews, and discharge counseling. Pharmacists in the main pharmacy prepare sterile products, dispense medications, and maintain pharmacy operations.

Clinical pharmacy specialists practice in multiple areas including emergency services, OR, infectious disease, drug information, internal medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, rehabilitation and critical care. The department currently has over 140 staff members including pharmacists, specialists, technicians, and supporting staff.

We are currently affiliated with and provide rotations for students from UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.
