When a patient has a stroke, no matter how severe, it is a life changing event. There are a range of emotions, along with the physical issues, that impact both the patient and family members. At WakeMed, we provide a supportive and healing environment that will help you as you recover from a stroke.

We believe in a team approach to care – from the moment you enter one of our emergency departments to the inpatient rehab program and outpatient therapy, our certified rehab stroke programs are designed to provide a personalized plan of care that includes the patient and family. It is our goal to give you the very best care – providing excellent medical, emotional and spiritual care and support. We work with you at each phase of recovery to develop achievable goals that will result in your optimal recovery.

About Our Stroke Program:

Awards & Accolades

WakeMed has earned certifications, achievements and recognitions for our commitment to quality, safety and therapies, including:

In our area this is particularly meaningful since we live in what is often called the “Stroke Belt,” where someone is hospitalized every 20 minutes for stroke. These awards and certifications validate our commitment to treating stroke patients immediately, providing a full continuum of care and improving outcomes after stroke. Our stroke rehabilitation program is a critical part of that care and has successfully served thousands of patients and their families over the years. It is part of our larger stroke program that includes:

Support for Stroke Patients and Their Families
Our support programs are open to patients and families during all phases of recovery and are linked to national organizations and resources, such as the National Stroke Association, American Stroke Association, and the US National Institutes of Health. We are involved in the community, reaching out to educate and facilitate programs that will help people recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke and to reduce the incidence of stroke in Wake and surrounding counties. We are also proud to host multiple Stroke Support Groups.
