WakeMed's commitment to area women is most recently reflected in two national recognitions, specifically highlighting the quality of care we provide to birthing mothers and women over age 65.

Across town, WakeMed Cary Hospital was one of four North Carolina hospitals – and the only Triangle-area hospital – to receive a Healthgrades 2014 Women’s Health Excellence Award for the care given to women over age 65. Learn more.  


WakeMed Achieves Top Honors for Stroke Care, Heart Failure
WakeMed is proud to have achieved top honors from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for success in implementing a higher standard of care for stroke and heart failure patients. Both WakeMed Cary Hospital and WakeMed Raleigh Campus received 2014 Gold Plus and Honor Roll awards for stroke care as well as the Heart Failure Gold Plus Achievement award. Learn more.


STEMI Silver Quality
WakeMed Cary Hospital has been honored with the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Referring Center- SILVER Level Recognition Award. To receive this distinction, WakeMed Cary Hospital consistently followed American Heart Association’s treatment guidelines for four consecutive quarters, meeting performance standards and measures to ensure STEMI, or heart attack, patients get the right care they need, as quickly as possible. Mission: Lifeline focuses on improving the system of care for these patients and, at the same time, improving care for all heart attack patients.


WakeMed Honored for Website Transparency
WakeMed Health & Hospitals is one of only 11 hospital systems nationwide to receive the 2014 Hospital Website Transparency Award. The awards, announced by URAC and The Leapfrog Group, identify outstanding hospital websites that promote transparency of safety and quality measures in a manner that is useful and user-friendly for consumers.

The Leapfrog Group: WakeMed Raleigh Earns A and Cary Earn B
WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital are pleased to participate in the The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Survey. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national nonprofit organization that works to initiate improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care.

 


WakeMed Achieves Carolina Parent Family Friendly 50 Once Again
WakeMed is pleased to once again be recognized for creating and fostering a family-friendly work culture by Carolina Parent magazine.

WakeMed Recognized for High Quality Cardiac Care
WakeMed Health & Hospitals has been named a Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.  Research shows that Blue Distinction Centers+ demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients, with lower rates of complications following certain cardiac procedures and lower rates of healthcare associated infections, compared with their peers. Blue Distinction Centers+ are also 20 percent more cost-efficient for those same procedures.


  
Continuing Medical Education Re-Accreditation
WakeMed is home to the Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC), which provides health professionals with continuing medical education (CME).  The North Carolina Medical Society's
Medical Education Committee recently awarded Accreditation with Commendation to Wake AHEC.

 

    
Wake County's Only Level 1 Trauma

WakeMed Raleigh Campus features one of six Level 1 Trauma programs statewide to deliver the highest level of care for traumatic injuries. In 2006, WakeMed was the first hospital system in 16 years to move from Level II Trauma to a Level I Trauma program. The Level I Trauma program is supported by WakeMed Air Mobile and a dedicated team of emergency physicians, orthopaedists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, respiratory therapists, nurses, radiologists, chaplains and social workers.

Heart Attack Higher Standard of Care

American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Foundation's NCDR ACTION Registry-Get With the Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award
Both WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital have received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's NCDR ACTION Registry-GWTG Performance Achievement Award for 2013.  Raleigh received the Platinum Award and Cary received the Silver Award.

The award recognizes WakeMed's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that WakeMed has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
