Awards & Accolades

At WakeMed, quality is our utmost priority, with each hospital and facility in our system working to meet certain goals that will ensure our patients receive the best care possible.  Learn more about our commitment to quality here.  The memberships, achievements and recognitions held by WakeMed Children's are a direct reflection of this commitment.

Children's Hospital Association
WakeMed Children's is proud to be a member of the Children's Hospital Association, an organization that advances child health through innovations in the quality, cost and delivery of care.

We are also proud to offer the only dedicated children's hospital in Wake County and the only emergency department in Wake County that is dedicated to kids. Not only that, all of our area emergency departments (in north Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Brier Creek and Garner) are backed by WakeMed Children's.

NIDCAP Nursery Certification
At WakeMed's Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) , the only one of its kind in Wake County, we have offered extraordinary care for premature newborns for more than 35 years. In 2012, our NICU became fourth in the world to receive NIDCAP Nursery Certification. NIDCAP (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program) is known internationally to support the growth and development of premature infants while improving the quality of their care and family support.

2013 PRC National Excellence in Healthcare Award Winner
Our NICU was also the recipient of the PRC Crystal Award for having the highest patient satisfaction score of any NICU in the country that PRC surveyed in 2012.

WakeMed is a Joint Commission Accredited Healthcare Provider
WakeMed is proud to be Joint Commission accredited healthcare provider.   The Joint Commission is a healthcare accrediting agency with strict rules and regulations participating organizations must follow to ensure they are providing the best healthcare in safe facilities following best practices.

Joint Commission standards dictate security requirements, size of doorways, surgical process and procedures, physician documentation and much, much more.  Comprehensive surveys are conducted every three years.

Raleigh Campus, Cary Hospital, North Healthplex, Apex Healthplex, Brier Creek Healthplex, Garner Healthplex and all WakeMed outpatient facilities are all Joint Commission accredited.
