Feel the Beat: WakeMed Takes Heart Health to the Community - Archived

RALEIGH, N.C. (February 7, 2011) – WakeMed Heart & Vascular is celebrating American Heart Month by bringing basic CPR and heart health education to communities across Wake County.

In each community, WakeMed will present the Feel the Beat road show, which will include a presentation on the warning signs and symptoms of heart attack, followed by a 30-minute CPR Anytime for Family & Friends training. Participants will receive one CPR Anytime for Family & Friends kit per household.

The community events will culminate on Saturday, February 19 with a special Heart Health Fair in the WakeMed Heart Center at 3000 New Bern Ave., Raleigh. Seminars at the Heart Health Fair will include Peripheral Vascular Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment; When to Take Chest Pain Serious/CPR Anytime for Friends and Family; Aortic Aneurysm Detection and Treatment.

WakeMed Heart Center
The WakeMed Heart Center is the busiest heart center in North Carolina where more than 20,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures are performed each year. The Center houses eight cardiac catheterization labs and two electro-physiology labs. Services offered include; open heart surgery; cardiac catheterizations; angioplasty and stent insertion; electrophysiology studies; RF ablations; pacemaker, automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator insertion and resynchronization; peripheral vascular diagnosis and treatment; and cardiovascular testing.
