Managed Care Contracts
WakeMed contracts with a wide variety of managed care plans and insurance companies. Below is a list of those plans currently accepted at all of WakeMed's facilities. In addition, WakeMed generally accepts traditional health insurance plans.
By selecting one of these managed care plans, you can be sure you and your family have access to WakeMed, the health care system that offers you the most comprehensive medical services available in Wake County.
Note - Managed Care Updates: WakeMed's contract with UnitedHealthcare's Medicare Advantage network will end on August 15, 2010, marking the end of our three-year contract for the following UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans: Secure Horizons (HMO, PPO & POS plans); AARP Medicare Complete (HMO, PPO & POS plans) and Evercare (HMO, PPO & POS plans). Effective August 15, WakeMed, WFP, WSP and WakeMed Home Health will only accept Medicare Advantage plans for which we are under contract, which will include none of the above. In an emergency, patients can seek care at the closest hospital as emergency care is covered by these plans even if the hospital no longer has a contract. WakeMed will continue to accept traditional Medicare (www.medicare.gov). For a list of accepted insurance plans, visit www.wakemed.org under For Our Patients, then Managed Care Contracts. Or call 350-CARE (2273).
If you have questions related to your insurance plan, we encourage you to call the CareLine at (919) 350-2273. The CareLine is a central resource for any insurance verification and preauthorization issues. The hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
