At WakeMed, we recognize the key role family and friends play in your recovery process. That's why we've created multiple ways for everyone to keep in touch.

Mail

Letters and packages for patients are delivered Monday through Friday by WakeMed volunteers. Letters and parcels that arrive after you have left are forwarded to your home. You can leave outgoing mail at the nurses' station or give it to a volunteer. A mailbox is located just outside the Visitor Entrance.

Well-wishers may send you mail at the main WakeMed address.  Please make sure they know your full name.  Your mail will arrive at your room faster if our volunteers can match the name on your incoming mail to the name in our computer system.

Email-A-Patient

Email-A-Patient is a simple and easy way for friends and family to send free messages to patients staying in our hospitals. Well-wishers can log on to WakeMed's website, www.wakemed.org, and send patients messages by filling out and submitting an electronic message form. The message is sent to Volunteer Services, where a staff member prints it on custom stationery and then delivers the message to the patient. Email messages are delivered Monday through Friday during regular business hours, along with postal mail and flowers.

Wireless Internet Access

For the convenience of our patients and visitors, free wireless Internet access is available on your own laptop computer at our Raleigh, Cary and North Healthplex locations. We are pleased to offer this service but cannot provide computers or technical support.

Interpreters

Language interpreters are available 24-hours a day. If you need a language interpreter, please ask your nurse to request one. Interpreters used inside the hospital have special training to be able to translate medical information for you.

Flowers

Hospital volunteers deliver flowers to patients daily between 1:45 and 3:30 pm. Because of the need to maintain a sterile environment, we cannot allow flowers in the Critical Care Units.

Gifts for patients

Often, patients are prescribed special diets by their doctor. Please check with the patient's nurse before bringing gifts of food or drink to a patient. Also, please check with the nurse regarding any gifts for patients in the Critical Care Units.

Dining

On the Raleigh Campus, dining facilities are located in Café 3000 and Au Bon Pain Cafe & Bakery on the first floor of the hospital.  Learn more about dining options at WakeMed.

At WakeMed Cary Hospital, guests may dine in Points West Cafe on the ground floor or The Bistro on the first floor.  Learn more about dining options at WakeMed.

Banking

Raleigh Campus: There are two automated teller machines in the hospital - one located in the Health Park at the Rehab Hospital, and the other just outside Patient Registration on the first floor.

Cary Hospital: An automated teller machine is available in the Atrium Lobby of the hospital.

Notary

Notary services are available to inpatients if they are interested in completing a Health Care Power of Attorney or a Living Will.  Please ask your nurse or call Chaplain Services or Spiritual Care at ext. 08000 to arrange for a notary.  There is no cost for this service.

Chapel

A meditation chapel is located on the third floor of WakeMed. It is open at all times for prayer, meditation and times of silence. If you would like to talk to a chaplain, please call extension 08556 or dial 08000 and ask that a chaplain be paged.
