Commitment to Quality

At WakeMed, we are committed to providing the highest quality of care and reporting publicly on our performance. 

In this section, you will find information on how we are doing in meeting quality improvement standards in specific clinical areas. We are beginning with heart care, pneumonia care, and surgical care and plan to add to this list over time.

The measures reported reflect the standard care for most patients. However, each patient is unique.  A physician may elect to provide care that is slightly different for his/her patient because of conditions that make that patient different. Sometimes this means our care scores may not be 100% for good reason.

The measures are reported by quarter for WakeMed's fiscal year which runs October-September.  We have provided two years worth of data for the measures.

The benchmark, or target, we have chosen is to be in the top 10% of North Carolina hospitals (represented in green on the graphs).

              

 WakeMed's site and CMS Hospital Compare 

You may notice a difference between the data that is posted on CMS' Hospital Compare website and the WakeMed website. The data on Hospital Compare is almost a year old by the time it is posted.  This is due to the amount of time it takes for the data to be collected and submitted by hospitals and then validated by CMS.

In addition, CMS uses a rolling four quarters to display the data (e.g., one data point represents a whole year). In order to give you a real time presentation of WakeMed's performance, we chose to display the data as quarterly trends over time and we can provide you recent results that have not yet been posted on Hospital Compare.
