RALEIGH, N.C. (September 12, 2019) -- WakeMed continues to grow its network of providers and specialties, expand practice locations and collaborate with community physicians to improve the health and well-being of the people we serve.

WakeMed Physician Practices - Bariatric Surgery and WakeMed Bariatric Specialists of North Carolina have brought together the physicians, services, staff and expertise as one comprehensive team under a new name – WakeMed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss.

Now WakeMed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss, our team of providers will continue to deliver the highest quality weight loss and bariatric care to our patients. This new name aligns all of our bariatric specialists and services as well as the same dedicated physicians who have provided exceptional bariatric care to our patients for years.

The care team includes 7 bariatric surgeons, 2 medical weight loss physicians, 4 registered dietitians and 3 advanced practice providers as well as a program coordinator and an exercise specialist. Our patients are also supported by a team of physical therapists, behavioral health specialists and other partners who provide wellness coaching, fitness solutions and additional support as needed.

Bariatric Specialists of North Carolina (BSNC) joined the WakeMed family in August 2018, forming WakeMed Bariatric Specialists of North Carolina. The physicians and staff of the two WakeMed bariatric surgery practices are now joining together to establish one of the largest, most comprehensive bariatric surgery and medical weight loss groups in the state of North Carolina.

All bariatric procedures for WakeMed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss are performed at WakeMed Cary Hospital, which has been chosen for its excellence in bariatric surgery and commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience. In addition to being accredited as a comprehensive center for bariatric surgery, WakeMed Cary Hospital is recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for bariatric surgery by Blue Cross N.C., has earned the Cigna Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery and is designated an Optum Center of Excellence from United Health Group. WakeMed Cary Hospital is accredited as a comprehensive center for bariatric surgery by the American College of Surgeons’ Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

Guided by expert, board-certified bariatric surgeons, WakeMed Cary Hospital’s bariatric surgery team is comprised of skilled professionals including a bariatric coordinator, nurses, dieticians and nutritionists and fitness specialists all working together to produce positive patient outcomes.

WakeMed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss has six office locations for patients throughout the region for medical weight management, bariatric surgical consults, pre-operative, post-operative and follow-up care: Brier Creek, Burlington, Cary-Ashville Ave, Cary-MacGregor Pines, Fuquay-Varina and North Raleigh.

WakeMed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss is dedicated to education and providing the community with the surgical and non-surgical tools necessary to begin and continue along their weight loss journey. The practice offers a comprehensive approach to care with an on-site lab-draw services, cardiac testing, fluoroscopy-guided band adjustments, sleep center, nutrition store and nutrition consults.
