WakeMed Foundation Establishes the Megan Champ Morgan Scholarship Fund, Supporting New Generations of Health Providers, Educators, and IT Professionals
January 27, 2022RALEIGH, N.C. (January 27, 2022) – The WakeMed Foundation today announces the Megan Champ Morgan Scholarship Fund to benefit WakeMed employees and their dependents who plan to pursue post-secondary education in health sciences, education and technology.
Megan Champ Morgan lived a life full of compassion, caring and respect for others. Her legacy will be honored and carried on through this new scholarship fund established in Megan’s memory by her parents, former WakeMed President & CEO Ray Champ and his wife Meredyth.
Although only 45 when she died, Megan left many examples of her giving nature through her work and countless personal acts of compassion and kindness. She learned about WakeMed’s culture and values from an early age, not only from her father, who served as CEO from 1983 to 2003, but also as a teen volunteer and intern at WakeMed.
“Meredyth and I value the role that WakeMed plays in this community and all that it has done. We want to help the hospital in any way that we can, and this contribution is one example of that,” says Ray Champ. “I am so proud of having been associated with WakeMed and everything it stands for today and in years to come.”
Beginning in 2022, the fund will provide scholarships of up to $10,000 for dependents of WakeMed employees seeking higher education or training from an accredited not-for-profit institution in health sciences, elementary or secondary education, computer sciences, or information technology. In future years, it will expand to benefit employees.
“This scholarship fund is a transformational and powerful gift for WakeMed and for this community," explains Brad Davis, executive director of the WakeMed Foundation. "We are humbled to carry on Megan’s legacy while supporting WakeMed employees and their dependents and incredibly grateful to Mr. Champ for his continued leadership and for his and Meredyth’s generosity, compassion and kindness.”
