WakeMed Garner Healthplex: Year in Review
September 10, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. (August 13, 2014) – Nearly one year ago, the WakeMed Garner Healthplex opened its doors for patient care, bringing quality, convenience and much needed emergency, outpatient services and additional physician specialties to the residents of southeast Wake and Johnston Counties.
August 19, 2014 marks the official one-year anniversary, and the facility continues to exceed expectations. In fact, since August 19, 2013, more than 22,600 patients have been seen in the facility’s emergency department – far surpassing the projected first-year numbers of 14,642.
“We are grateful to be part of this growing community, and it’s truly a privilege to provide quality, passionate care and meet the health needs of the residents and families – our neighbors,” shares Carolyn Knaup, RN, MHA, WakeMed senior vice president of ambulatory services and physician operations. “WakeMed is here to improve the health and well-being of the community, and we would not be able to achieve this without the amazing community response and support we’ve received since day one.”
On opening day, the WakeMed Garner Healthplex emergency department (ED) treated 29 patients. Within the first month, the medical and nursing staff were treating 52 patients per day. Now, care is provided to an average of 64 patients each and every day. The highest patient volume to date is 102 patients in one day, which occurred on June 9, 2014.
