RALEIGH, N.C. (December 7, 2022) – WakeMed North Hospital was honored by The Leapfrog Group with a 2022 Top Hospital Award, a national recognition widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards U.S. hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) can receive for patient safety and quality.

WakeMed North Hospital earned a Top Teaching Hospital designation from The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization focused on health care safety and quality.

“This distinction reflects our entire team’s commitment and dedication to exceptional care, quality and safety standards, and our mission to improve the health and well-being of the community we serve,” said Valerie Barlow, senior vice president & administrator, WakeMed North Hospital.

“WakeMed has supported our patients and the next generation of health care providers by offering training, teaching and medical education programs for more than 45 years, and it’s a privilege to support our patients and the next generation of health care providers.”

This year, 115 hospitals from across the country received the Top Hospital Award. California, Florida, and North Carolina were the states with the most Top Hospitals, with 10 or more hospitals in each state receiving the designation. The Top Hospitals are recognized in four categories: Top General Hospitals (32 recipients), Top Rural Hospitals (13 recipients), Top Teaching Hospitals (58 recipients – including WakeMed North Hospital), and Top Children’s Hospitals (12 recipients).

“This is an incredible achievement that every one of these hospitals and ASCs should be celebrating,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Congratulations to their clinicians, leadership, and staff for putting patients first.”

Data from the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey and Leapfrog ASC Survey were used to identify award winners.

WakeMed Raleigh Campus, WakeMed Cary Hospital, and WakeMed North Hospital all received A ratings on the latest Hospital Safety Grades released by The Leapfrog Group in November (Fall 2022 ratings).

Full results of the 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Survey and Leapfrog ASC Survey are publicly reported and available for free on Leapfrog’s website, providing patients with a resource to make informed decisions about where to seek treatment.
