Instructions
Transfer specimen to a sterile screw cap tube or sterile container.
For large volumes, two 50 ml sterile centrifuge tubes may be submitted.
BacT/Alert bottles for body fluid culture are acceptable, but it is requested that sterile, undiluted fluid also be sent with the BacT/Alert bottles. Inoculate up to 10 mls into a BacT/Alert FA Plus Aerobic Bottle. Also inoculate a BacT/Alert FN Plus Anaerobic Bottle if total volume exceeds 10 mls.

Gram stain: normally available within 8 hours of receipt in the laboratory (Stat: 1 hour) <p>Preliminary culture result : in 24hr.</p><p>Final culture result : Negative result in 5 days , Positive result may take more or less than 5 days.</p>
