WakeMed Re-Accredited as Chest Pain Centers
October 31, 2024RALEIGH, N.C. (October 31, 2024) – The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has re-accredited both WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital as Chest Pain Centers following a virtual survey in October. WakeMed Raleigh Campus received reaccreditation for Chest Pain Centers with Primary PCI while WakeMed Cary Hospital received reaccreditation for Chest Pain Center services.
The ACC’s accreditation services offer quality improvement programs designed for hospital cardiovascular teams focused on efficient and effective care of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. The survey included a review of both facilities’ protocols, processes and capabilities in providing care to patients presenting with chest pain and possible need for intervention procedures.
This Chest Pain Center accreditation survey validates the exceptional care and services that WakeMed staff and physicians deliver to our community every day. Participating in the accreditation survey process is an opportunity to improve access to cardiac care and services in an emergency setting by having resources patients can count on closer to home.
The Chief Medical Officers at WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital contribute the survey’s success to the collaborative work between both facilities’ Chest Pain Committee members; nursing leadership; support from Peter Chan, MD, Pratik Desai, MD and Damian Marycz, MD (all of WakeMed Heart & Vascular); Jeff Williams, MD (WEPPA); WakeMed Medical Staff members; Mobile Critical Care Services; and Wake and Johnston Counties EMS agencies.
