RALEIGH, N.C. (August 27, 2024) – WakeMed and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBS NC) have reached an agreement that will bring WakeMed services and providers in network with Healthy Blue, the BCBS NC Medicaid prepaid health plan.

The contract, which is effective as of July 1, 2024, provides in-network access for Healthy Blue members at WakeMed hospitals, WakeMed Physician Practices locations and 210 PET Imaging. WakeMed’s four ambulatory surgery centers are not participating in this contract at this time.

Healthy Blue is one of the largest Medicaid managed care plans in the state, helping connect millions of North Carolinians with high-quality health care. WakeMed and Healthy Blue are working through an implementation plan and have begun notifying patients, providers and members of the community about the new contract.

With this new agreement, WakeMed has contracts in place with all five Medicaid prepaid health plans in our region:

WakeMed is also working to finalize a contract with Alliance Health, which administers the Medicaid tailored health plan for Wake County and several surrounding counties.

While our hospitals and emergency departments are in-network with the Medicaid managed care plans listed above, not all of our physician practices accept Medicaid. We strongly encourage Medicaid patients to contact their health care provider’s office before scheduling an appointment to confirm their plan is accepted. More information about the insurance plans WakeMed accepts can be found on the Insurance We Accept page.
