Raleigh, N.C. (June 10, 2024) – WakeMed is pleased to announce that Walter Henry (Hank) Woods, IV has been named vice president of the WakeMed Foundation.

He joined the organization in May 2024, bringing more than 24 years of development and non-profit leadership experience—most recently with the HOW Institute for Society as Chief Partnerships and Development Officer.

As vice president of the WakeMed Foundation, Woods directs and manages the team responsible for all fundraising programs and activities in support of WakeMed’s mission.

“Many organizations talk about their culture, but few live into it like WakeMed,” said Woods. “It is demonstrated by providers and staff, embodying the spirit that how we do things is often more important than what we do. I am thrilled to be part of this family and to have the opportunity to help this organization fulfill our mission to the community.”

Prior to his role with WakeMed and the HOW Institute for Society, Woods worked at Duke University for more than 20 years, holding multiple roles with increasing responsibility, culminating with the position of associate dean, Development and Alumni Relations at the Fuqua School of Business. While at the Fuqua School he led a program that raised more than $20M annually while also increasing constituent engagement and affiliation with the school.

In addition to involvement in volunteer and professional experiences, Woods holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Davidson College and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from the University of Richmond. He lives in Durham with his wife and two daughters.
