About Me

Dr. Ann Chung is a board-certified general surgeon who has also completed a fellowship in minimally invasive advanced gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. Her clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery using endoscopic, laparoscopic and DaVinci robotic techniques, reflux disease, hiatal hernias, bariatric surgery, small and large intestinal disease processes, biliary disease and solid organ pathology.

After graduating from medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Dr. Chung continued her training by completing a general surgery residency at East Carolina University, where she was also the administrative chief resident. In addition, she completed a fellowship at University of North Carolina in minimally invasive surgery specializing in foregut and bariatric surgery. She also served as a clinical instructor of surgery.

Dr. Chung has shared her knowledge on a variety of GI topics, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, hiatal hernia repairs and biliary disease, in publications and presentations.

She enjoys traveling, being outdoors, snowboarding and baking. She speaks two foreign languages: Mandarin and Taiwanese.

I was in trouble with my gallbladder going bad when I came to see Dr. Chung and her team. She and her team, including nurse Edna, took excellent care of me. They quickly coordinated lab work and expedited urgent surgery for me. I was comfortable through the experience and had peace of mind knowing that the team was taking such good care of me during a time when I really needed help. My entire experience was compassionate, respectful, efficient, and safe. I’m very grateful for the care I received and would recommend WakeMed surgery for anyone who needs comprehensive, safe, high quality care.

Dr.Chung is OUTSTANDING. Not only do I respect her and know she is the BEST surgeon and doctor ever but the nurses where ever she is agree she is incredible and treats them well. It’s one think to treat your patients well it’s another thing to treat your team well too. She always takes time and remembers my medical and treats based on that. I hope to have her do all my surgeries heck I’ve had her do two of them. She isn’t arrogant like most surgeons she respects you and is confident and kind. I can’t say enough good things about her but I have already referred my mom to her for a hiatal hernia repair. Please never lose Dr. Chung because I’d go to the ends of the earth for her to always be my doctor.
