About Me

Dr. Christiana Bernal is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist who sees patients with general gastrointestinal complaints or disorders.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. She completed two years of research at Emory University before earning her doctorate in medicine at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Bernal then completed her residency in pediatrics, followed by fellowships in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, and in Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

During her training Dr. Bernal completed research on the genetic effects on proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy. She was awarded the National Institutes of Health Training grant to support her research endeavors. She also devoted time to teaching - presenting numerous talks at Vanderbilt University - and has published peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts related to gastroenterology.

On a personal level, Dr. Bernal is a busy wife and mother of three. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and photography.

Dr Bernal is so friendly and helps my daughter have a positive attitude about her diagnosis. My daughter always comes away feeling good about the experience, even the times when she’s dealing with a lot of painful symptoms. Dr Bernal has also given great advice and information to help us choose next steps in treatment.

Dr. Bernal was very friendly and easy to talk to. She was thorough in finding out what my child was experiencing, and talked in ways that made them able to describe without embarrassment. My child felt comfortable asking all their questions about their condition.

My child has significant anxiety and Dr. Bernal was fantastic at putting her at ease, or as much ease as a middle schooler can have when discussing rectal bleeding and poop.

My daughter was worried about the appointment as doctor visits sometimes entail shots, etc. Dr. Bernal's staff had informed her before she came in that my daughter was anxious. Dr. Bernal is always wonderful in appointments, but this time she went above and beyond to put my daughter at ease. Not even 10 minutes into the appointment and my child was laughing and allowing Dr. Bernal to examine her. Dr. Bernal listens to our concerns, gives us information in an easy to understand way, and never makes us feel rushed. She is our favorite pediatric provider and we cannot recommend her enough.

Our entire appointment was top notch. From the interest in hearing our concerns, to how things were explained to my son, we left feeling like there was a plan in place and understood next steps to addressing my son's pain. Communication and attentiveness was beyond what I expected. Would highly recommend this office to anyone.

I was very impressed by the kindness toward by son during the appointment. He struggles with sensitivity issues, which are so hard on him he often says he wishes he was never born. To have a doctor spend the time to tell him his troubles were actually a secret super-power that he just needed to learn how to use meant so much to me. The awareness of the struggle he must be going through, and to say something like that to him, shows that extra level of concern. Thank you.

Dr Bernal was, of course, excellent with gathering information from us and using it for differential diagnoses. She stood out in that she had a positive and fun attitude which put my daughter at ease. Having that approach makes so much difference to how my child views her health issues and our concerns about what the diagnoses and long-term consequences of that might be. Thank you for helping us to not feel overwhelmed by what we're facing!

Absolutely everything was outstanding, Dr. Bernal was patient, kind, and genuine. She did not minimize any of my concerns and thoroughly explained her recommendations.
