About Me
Liz Kaniaru is a family nurse practitioner with clinical interests and specialty training in endocrinology, diabetes and thyroid disorders. She is delighted to come home to WakeMed since she previously worked as a registered nurse for several years at the WakeMed Raleigh Campus in the Med Surg and Cardiology units. Kaniaru began her academic journey at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA where she earned a bachelor of nursing. She later received a master of science in nursing from Duke University in Durham, NC.
Kaniaru’s approach involves patient-centered care. She enjoys empowering patients through education, compassion and healthy lifestyle guidance. Her goal is to develop a partnership with patients for better health outcomes.
When not at work, Kaniaru enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with her husband and three daughters. She also has a special interest in medical mission trips and has returned to her homeland of Kenya to provide medical care for underserved patients.
