About Me

Dr. David Hoover is a board-certified surgeon with WakeMed Physician Practices Pediatric Surgery and serves as a pediatric surgeon at WakeMed Health & Hospitals. He brings over 10 years of pediatric surgery experience from Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital in Concord, N.C., and Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He is board-certified in general and pediatric surgery as well as critical care.

Dr. Hoover most recently held the position of Medical Director at the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital where he was responsible for growth and management of multidisciplinary pediatric subspecialty practice. Simultaneously, he served as a pediatric surgeon for Carolina Pediatric Surgery.

He graduated from Mississippi State University and continued his education at East Carolina University where he attended medical school. Dr. Hoover did his residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, and he was a Pediatric Surgery Critical Care Fellow and a Pediatric Surgery Fellow at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Since 1994, Dr. Hoover frequents Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, East Africa as a visiting surgeon. In addition, since 1997, he has volunteered as the Young Life's Windy Gap Camp Physician.

Dr. Hoover knew exactly what was wrong with my son almost immediately and he was very quick to establish what was going to be done about it. He had the surgery scheduled for the next day which really helped to ensure that my son did not have to suffer from the pain any longer and to prevent the infection from getting worse. Additionally, it lowered my worry and anxiety because I didn’t have to wait for him to be taken care of. Dr. Hoover is a great doctor and I can see that he really knows what he is doing. That is comforting when your [] old child has to have surgery. I appreciate everything he did. I also appreciate the nurse who assisted with our initial appointment and Dr. Erickson who performed the actual surgery. I’m very happy with my son’s care. Thank you

Dr. Hoover was fantastic. He made my son feel at ease and he answered all of our questions with care and great explanation. He has the perfect bed side manner and communication skills for a pediatric doctor. We feel blessed Dr. Hoover did our son’s surgery and we would absolutely recommend him to friends and family !

Me and my son are very thankful for Dr. Hoover for taking his time to explain us everything the procedure or anything he can help my son with my son was also going through some mental issues with the problem that he has in the pain that he was going through but I thought we left the doctors office and talk to Dr. Hoover you seem to be a different child, and I would like to thank you very much Dr Hoover
