About Me

Dr. Katy Reines is a urologist with a clinical interest in general urology and a special interest in robotic surgery. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She attended medical school at University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. She went on to complete her residency through University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

Dr. Reines’ personal patient care philosophy is fundamentally rooted in the principle of recognizing each patient as a unique human being, deserving of empathy and respect. This holistic approach emphasizes the importance of compassionate care, where understanding and kindness serve as the backbone of her medical practice. She believes that effective communication is vital in fostering a trusting relationship between doctor and patient. This connection empowers patients to express their concerns, fears and aspirations in a supportive environment. Central to her philosophy is the concept of shared decision-making, which she sees as a collaborative journey that marries her professional expertise with the individual goals and values of her patients. In practice, this means taking the time to listen intently to what matters most to them and aligning treatment plans accordingly, ensuring that every course of action feels both relevant and respectful to their personal circumstances. By prioritizing this partnership, Dr. Reines enhances the likelihood of achieving the desired health outcomes, imbuing the experience with dignity and agency, allowing patients to feel empowered in their own care.

Outside of work, Dr. Reines enjoys going on walks with her husband and yellow lab, named “Duke.” She also loves learning how to play tennis, watching sports, traveling and trying new restaurants.
