About Me

Dr. Leigh Chancey is a licensed psychologist and a member of the multi-disciplinary team at WakeMed Physician Practices’ Pediatric Gastroenterology program.   Her approach to patient care emphasizes the connection between biology, psychology, as well as social, and environmental factors.   She provides evidence-based care by combining knowledge of the best available research on effective treatments with her clinical expertise, while considering each child and families' unique characteristics, culture and preferences.  Her current professional interests include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Pediatric Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction (DGBI) as well as promoting positive emotional adjustment and outcomes for children with a range of gastrointestinal conditions.  Dr. Chancey is actively involved in research, with recently published peer reviewed articles and presentations at local, state, and national conferences. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association's Division 54, Pediatric Gastroenterology Special Interest Group.  Outside of work, Dr. Chancey enjoys spending time with her friends and family, yoga, and playing soccer with her kids.
