About Me

Dr. Luis Vazquez is a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist who is passionate about preventive medicine. This is why he is particularly drawn to gastroenterology and hepatology. The role of colonoscopies in preventing colorectal cancer is of utmost importance with current data, and he is looking forward to working with physicians to reduce its incidence. Additionally, he is interested in addressing steatotic liver disease and preventing its progression to liver malignancy — a leading cause of liver transplants today.

Dr. Vazquez earned both his bachelor’s and medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, PR. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Stanford University in Stanford, CA. After residency, he pursued his gastroenterology fellowship at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR.

Dr. Vazquez’s personal approach to patient care emphasizes understanding the individual as a whole rather than focusing solely on the disease or ailment. He believes a comprehensive evaluation of how various aspects of life — such as patients’ understanding of their condition, lifestyle and overall well-being — contributes to their health. This holistic perspective allows him to provide tailored recommendations that support both their immediate needs and long-term wellness.

Outside of work, Dr. Vazquez has, since high school, been actively involved in sports, with a particular passion for basketball. He is excited to partake in the college basketball scene here in North Carolina. Additionally, he has a deep appreciation for the outdoors, including hiking and exploring natural scenery. Having moved from the Pacific Northwest, he is eager to discover the hiking trails and landscapes of the East Coast. As an animal lover, he, too, enjoys spending time with his beautiful German shorthaired pointer mix, Daisy, whom he takes to the park daily.
