About Me
Dr. J. Mark Englehardt has been an electrophysiologist with WakeMed since 1991. While completing his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Dr. Englehardt sub-specialized in cardiac electrophysiology. His research activities included the development of new procedures and devices to better manage patients with cardiac rhythm disorders such as catheter ablation techniques, implantable defibrillators, and new pacemakers for both fast and slow heart rhythms. Today, he mainly treats patients who are experiencing heart rhythm and loss of consciousness disorders. This includes symptoms and conditions such as heart palpitations, rapid heartbeats, slow heartbeats, heart failure and cardiac arrest.
During his time at WakeMed, Dr. Englehardt and his partners have marked many impressive milestones. Not only did they perform some of the first implantable defibrillator procedures in North Carolina, but they also performed the first dual chamber pacemaker procedure at a community hospital in the state. When asked why he chooses to practice medicine at WakeMed, Dr. Englehardt cited this organization’s first rate technology and resources, as well as the group of well-trained, enthusiastic cardiologists of which he is a part.
Dr. Englehardt lives in north Raleigh with his wife Audrey. In his spare time, he enjoys driving vintage race cars, exercising his labradoodle, doing watersports off the North Carolina coast, running and biking.
