About Me
Michaela Yost is an occupational therapist with clinical interests in implementing goals to foster a child's independence, knowledge in daily routines and self-care abilities. She is also interested in supporting feeding development. She addresses feeding challenges through a sensory scope, acknowledging the impact that sensory processing and regulation have in a child's feeding. Her research-based treatment approach prioritizes positive food association, working to build a child's intrinsic motivation.
Yost offers a holistic approach to patient care. She looks at the child as a whole and advocates for the child's growth and development, while considering the wants and needs of the family. She takes a team approach to individualize a plan of care. Her focus is on client and caregiver education, providing tools and strategies to help the family feel confident in their ability to carryover skills learned within the clinic on a day-to-day basis. Beyond this, she educates families on how these skills have application across multiple environments to support a child's independence and growth in daily living skills.
Outside of work, Yost enjoys going to concerts, playing music, going for hikes in the mountains, cheering on the Tar Heels and playing with Nelli — her Boykin Spaniel.
