About Me
Rachel Schaus is a nurse practitioner with clinical interests in kangaroo care (skin-to-skin) and breast feeding/pumping. She earned her undergraduate degree through University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. She went on to complete her doctorate while attending Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
Schaus’ personal patient care philosophy is deeply rooted in a family-centered care approach, particularly within the context of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). In this delicate environment, the focus extends beyond the neonate, recognizing that parents play an integral role in their baby’s healing and overall well-being. Engaging parents as active participants in their child’s care fosters a sense of empowerment, allowing them to feel valued and connected during an emotionally challenging time. Ultimately, a family-centered philosophy leads to improved satisfaction for parents and contributes to the overall well-being of the infant, laying the foundation for a healthier start in life.
Outside of work, Schaus enjoys reading and playing the piano. She is a huge Formula 1 fan! She and her husband watch the races every week and are in a fantasy league together.
