About Me

Dr. Rodrigo Muñoz is an obstetrician-gynecologist with clinical interests in the menopausal transition, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, pelvic organ prolapse, abnormal uterine bleeding and pre-invasive vulvar and cervical disease. He earned his undergraduate degree at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ. He went on to complete medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine in Birmingham, AL. He relocated to the Triangle to finish his residency through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC.

Dr. Muñoz holds that all patients who walks into his office carries a distinct set of experiences, backgrounds and individual needs that shape their approach to health and wellness. Understanding that each person's medical journey is influenced by various factors — including cultural, social and historical contexts — he strives to meet patients exactly where they are in their lives.

With a compassionate mindset, Dr. Muñoz is particularly aware of the complex dynamics at play in health care, recognizing that certain communities have faced long-standing injustices and discriminatory practices within the medical system. This historical mistreatment has fostered deep-seated mistrust in some patients, which he is determined to address through his practice.

As part of his commitment to providing equitable care, Dr. Muñoz diligently works to cultivate an atmosphere of trust and openness. He engages with his patients in meaningful conversations, demonstrating genuine interest in understanding their unique stories and perspectives. By doing so, he not only aims to facilitate better health outcomes but also seeks to empower his patients, making them active participants in their own care.

In his efforts, Dr. Muñoz remains steadfast in his belief that healing is a collaborative process. He embraces the diverse backgrounds of his patients and the challenges they face to build more inclusive and supportive environments. Through active listening and empathetic communication, he hopes to bridge the gap between the health care system and the communities he serves, ultimately fostering a stronger, more trusting doctor-patient relationship.

Outside of work, Dr. Muñoz enjoys traveling with his partner and trying new bakeries and restaurants.
