About Me
TJ Miller is a nurse practitioner with clinical interests in cardiopulmonary acute care conditions, such as cariogenic and obstructive shock. He is actively expanding his knowledge to more bodily systems, including neurological and acute-surgical abdominal concepts. With rapid and continuous improvements in health care technology, Miller loves mastering the utilization of new devices that support patient recovery times. These include the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), Impella and more.
Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC where he also briefly worked for the university in the lab and research department. Desiring more patient-centered care, he went on to earn his registered nurse bachelor of science in nursing from University of North Carolina at Wilmington in Wilmington, NC as well as his master’s from South College in Knoxville, TN.
Working with acutely ill patients during the pandemic in the COVID intensive care unit (ICU) fueled Miller’s passion for learning. As such, health literacy is very important to him, and he actively integrates best practices in teaching his patients how to be more proactive in their health care and disease prevention.
Outside of work, Miller prioritizes maintaining an active lifestyle. He takes his dog on daily hikes at local spots, including Umstead and Eno River. He also enjoys biking, rock climbing, lifting weights and jujitsu/grappling. Music is also a big part of Miller’s life as he plays several instruments, including guitar and piano.
