About Me

Dr. Travis Honeycutt is a board-certified pediatrician who has been with WakeMed Physician Practices - Pediatrics since 2006, specializing in pediatric intensive care and inpatient pediatrics. He has previous experience with the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, Division of Community Pediatrics, where he was clinical instructor of pediatrics, and he also served as a pediatrician for Wilmington Health Associates' Children's Clinic. In addition to being a WakeMed pediatric intensivist, Dr. Honeycutt is the co-director of Ultrasound Education for UNC Medical Students at WakeMed and is a certified provider for Spanish translation.

Dr. Honeycutt received his medical degree with distinction from the UNC School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at the UNC Department of Pediatrics. He also was a pediatric critical care fellow in the UNC Department of Pediatrics Division of Critical Care.

Dr. Honeycutt has extensive experience in providing medical care in developing countries. While in medical school, he was awarded a fellowship to study a Kenyan pediatric immunization program and worked in a pediatric hospital in Nairobi. He also worked with an AIDS Care Team and Mano Amiga Orphanage in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, has organized and led a volunteer public health campaign and home visitation for Outward Bound International in Costa Rica, served in the pediatric intensive care unit at

Hospital Nacional de Los Ninos in San Jose, Costa Rica, and led and organized a multidisciplinary team to develop pediatric intensive care services in Kampala, Uganda.

Throughout his career, Dr. Honeycutt has received various awards, including the 2022 Dascomb Award for his dedication to teaching and patient care at WakeMed. In addition, Dr. Honeycutt has received multiple Attending Teaching Awards, awarded by UNC pediatric residents, for excellence in teaching.

He is certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Outside of work, Dr. Honeycutt enjoys surfing, martial arts, running, traveling with his family and participating in health care volunteer work. In 2022, Dr. Honeycutt provided care to Nicaraguan refugees at the Costa Rican border. He is also an active volunteer physician of Operation Smile, transforming children’s smiles by addressing their medical needs.
