About Me

Umi-Aisha Thomas is a nurse practitioner originally from Sierra Leone. She relocated to California where she lived for 29 years, developing her nursing career. She then married and moved to North Carolina in 2011, where she began working at WakeMed. Her clinical interests include mental health, telemetry and medical-surgical nursing — in both inpatient and outpatient settings — including correctional facilities. In her clinical experience, she has treated patients with acute psychosis, depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder and more.

Thomas earned her associates at Riverside Community College in Riverside, CA. She went on to complete a bachelors through University of Phoenix in Phoenix, AZ. She completed her masters at Walden University in Minneapolis, MN.

Thomas has a passion for helping others, especially those struggling to be heard or respected. Adept at conducting thorough assessments and formulating comprehensive treatment plans, she incorporates evidence-based psychotherapy and medication management. In her work as a mental health nurse and practitioner, she supports patients, realizing the impact of mental health issues on the individual. Thomas believes in approaching patient care holistically, noting that each patient has unique needs that require empathy, accountability, teamwork and compassion. This means she treats the entire patient, including mental health, physical health and overall well-being.

Outside of work, Thomas enjoys quality time with family, which is her greatest joy. She also loves decorating, event planning and cooking.
