Heart & Vascular Care


Our cardiovascular and pulmonary specialists offer an array of cardiac, respiratory and vascular testing and treatment procedures in the department's nationally accredited echocardiogram, stress and vascular laboratories.

Services include cardiac imaging, nuclear cardiology, transesophageal cardiac imaging, stress tests, cardioversion, pulmonary function testing and electrocardiograms, and a full compliment of respiratory care services for adults and babies.

Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

WakeMed Cary Hospital cardiovascular specialists use the latest technology to diagnose and treat heart conditions. 

Heart & Vascular Labs for Diagnosis & Interventions Services include:

  • Cardiac catheterization to diagnose heart disease
  • Coronary interventions and stent placements for cardiac catheterizations
  • Code STEMI response interventions offered Monday – Friday from 7 am to 5 pm
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Defibrillator and bi-ventricular device implantation
  • Electrophysiology studies
  • Non-complex ablation treatment for heart rhythm problems
  • Cardioversions
  • Specialized vascular studies and stent placement

Be prepared for an emergency. Learn to save a life by learning hands only CPR.

  • Identify the warning signs and symptoms of heart attack
  • Know what to do when you or someone else is having a heart attack
  • Learn how to perform CPR
  • Know what to expect when you arrive at the hospital

Cardiac Rehab Program in Cary

The WakeMed Cardiac Rehab Program is located adjacent to Cary Hospital with classes offered:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 7 am - 8 am 
Tuesday and Thursday: 8 am - 9 am 
Monday through Friday: 12 pm -1 pm

Cardiac rehab offers comprehensive nutrition, lifestyle and physical activity counseling for patients who have suffered a cardiac event, such as a heart attack, heart surgery, cardiac catheterization or are diagnosed with a debilitating cardiac condition such as heart failure. The participant's goal is to improve physical fitness and overall health, and reduce the risk of future heart problems. Learn more about the program.

Primary Stroke Center

WakeMed Health & Hospitals is proud to be a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center.  The WakeMed Stroke Team is made up of specially trained physicians, nurses and therapists, who are dedicated to the care of stroke patients. The WakeMed Stroke Team serves patients at WakeMed Cary Hospital and WakeMed Raleigh Campus.
