Get StartedDoes My Insurance Cover Bariatric Surgery?
Generally speaking, if you have bariatric benefits as part of your policy, a bariatric surgery procedure will be covered by insurance. Our team will help you verify your insurance benefits prior to meeting with one of our providers.
We encourage you to check your own benefits as well by calling your insurance provider and asking if you have coverage for E66.01 (this number is the insurance diagnosis code for morbid obesity).
You can also check with your employer for specific information about your policy. Costs of the procedure or surgery will vary depending on the type of procedure and how long you are required to stay in the hospital.
Please note: By law, all insurance products must cover emergencies. If you are having an emergency, please select your care location based on proximity rather than insurance coverage.
How Can I Appeal an Insurance Plan Denial?
If the insurance company turns down your request for bariatric surgery, you may be able to appeal the decision. Many people do not take advantage of the appeals process or know the laws that govern insurance companies in their state. Work with your bariatric program team for help in figuring out the best approach to appealing a denial of coverage. Even if you are unsuccessful with your appeal, you still may have options such as independent review boards, arbitration or litigation.
What If I Don’t Have Insurance or Bariatric Benefits?
For patients with a bariatric exclusion in their policy, those who do not have insurance, and those who are seeking surgery outside the constraints of their insurance company, we offer many self-funded options for bariatric surgery. We have cash-pay programs for many different types of bariatric surgery as well as secondary, or revisional procedures.
