Fall Intern Unit — (Raleigh/Cary)
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA — PREREQUISITES FOR INTERNS
- Bachelor's degree is required and interns often have completed at least one year of theological school
- Ordination or authorization to function in ministry by one’s faith community
- Ministry involvement or experience as clergy or laity
- Completed application
- ACPE Admissions Interview with CPE supervisory staff
- Tuition: $ 450.00
- Benefits: On-call meal tickets, pharmacy discounts, free parking
- Schedule: TBD
UNIT REQUIREMENTS:
- On-call rotations that require a 12-hour stay in the hospital (usually 12 – 15 per unit). Number of days between on-calls depend on the total number of Chaplains in the group and can be as often as (but no more than) every 6 to 10 days. Chaplain interns are paid $100 for each 12-hour on-call shift.
- Assistance with Spiritual Care Consults /Needs and on-call assistance (a 6-hour shift on Saturday or Sunday, on a rotating basis)
- 8 – 10 hours weekly on clinical area
- Completion of all Educational Requirements

Academic Year Program (Level I)

UNIT REQUIREMENTS:
The CPE academic year program WakeMed provides one unit of Level I CPE over two consecutive semesters. Clinical ministry assignments are at our WakeMed Cary campus. Responsibilities of the chaplain include ministry to patients, families, and hospital staff.
- A 32-week unit from the Fall – Spring — meeting day(s) and time to be decided
- Individual Supervision
- Scheduled bi-weekly at a time negotiated by you and your supervisor
- Scheduled bi-weekly at a time negotiated by you and your supervisor
- Clinical Care
- You are responsible for ministry to the patients, their families, and the staff in your assigned clinical area(s)
- You are to spend 6-hours a week in your clinical area(s), convenient to your schedule
- 8-hour shifts at least 2 times per month Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays

Residency 2025 – 2026
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA — PREREQUISITES FOR CHAPLAIN RESIDENTS
- A Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university
- The successful completion of at least one unit of ACPE accredited CPE
- Ordination or authorization to function in ministry by one’s faith community
- Completed application
- ACPE Admissions Interview with CPE supervisory staff
- Dates: August 2024 – August 2025
- Positions Available: 6
- Tuition: $300.00 per unit (3 CPE units for the year)
- Stipend: $38,000
- Benefits: Medical Insurance, Life Insurance, free parking, 26 paid days off, on-call meal tickets, and pharmacy discounts
- Schedule: Monday – Friday work schedule, 8:00am – 4:30pm, plus on-call rotations. No on-call shifts on Saturdays/Sundays.
- Deadline: December 1, 2024
UNIT REQUIREMENTS:

- On-call rotations, usually 4 – 6 twelve hour shifts per month (will receive flex time)
- Completion of Educational Requirements
Additional Information:
- Students seeking academic course credit for CPE should contact their seminary / divinity school registrar for information and guidance.
- Tuition of $300 per unit is payable to WakeMed Department of Spiritual Care. A limited number of tuition scholarships are available.
- Applications are reviewed as they are received with some consideration given to group composition. Interested students are encouraged to apply early. There is no application fee.
- The Residency program consists of three units of CPE over the one year period.
