Pharmacy Residents
2024–2025
McKenna Fowler, PharmD, is a current PGY1 Pharmacy resident. Fowler is originally from Saratoga Springs, UT. She received her bachelor of science in biomedical science from Dixie State University in St. George, UT. She then went on to earn her doctor of pharmacy degree at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Her clinical interests include critical care, infectious diseases and internal medicine. Upon completion of her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, Fowler plans to pursue a PGY2 specialty residency and earn board certification. In the future, she hopes to practice clinical pharmacy at an institution that offers precepting opportunities. In her free time, Fowler enjoys snowboarding, reading and watching K-dramas. Mary-Carty Pittman, PharmD, is a current PGY1 Pharmacy resident at WakeMed. Pittman is originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina. She received both her bachelor of arts in chemistry and PharmD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her current clinical interests include critical care and cardiology. After completion of her PGY1 Pharmacy residency, she plans to pursue a PGY2 specialty residency in one of these areas and earn board certification. Taylor Raiger, PharmD, is one of the current PGY1 Pharmacy Residents. Raiger is originally from Greensboro, NC. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from North Carolina State University and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her current clinical interests include cardiology and ambulatory care. Upon completing PGY1, Raiger hopes to either pursue a PYG2 or practice as a clinical pharmacist in an area of interest and precept learners.

Lauren Trummel, PharmD, is a current PGY1 pharmacy resident at WakeMed. She was born and grew up in Jacksonville, FL and attended the University of Florida where she earned her bachelor's degree in biology and attended the University of Florida College of Pharmacy for her PharmD. Her current interest areas include internal medicine, infectious disease, critical care and geriatrics. Trummel is passionate about teaching and learning in pharmacy and her future career goals include becoming a preceptor, earning board certification and being a clinical pharmacist on a rounding team. Bre Boyette, PharmD, is a current PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy resident at WakeMed. Boyette is originally from Mesa, AZ. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from the Midwestern University College of Pharmacy in 2023 and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, AZ. Her current practice interests include critical care and emergency medicine. Upon completion of residency training, she has career goals of obtaining her Board-Certified Critical Care Pharmacist (BCCCP) certification and pursuing a career as a critical care clinical pharmacist, teaching future residents and students. Rachel Eccles, PharmD, MBA, is a current PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy resident at WakeMed. Eccles is from Jefferson City, TN. She received her bachelor of science in health science from Middle Tennessee State University and completed her doctor of pharmacy from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy in 2023. Her current practice interests include emergency medicine, antibiotic stewardship and shock syndromes. Upon completion of residency training, Eccles plans to obtain her Board-Certified Critical Care Pharmacist (BCCCP) certification and pursue a career with clinical and precepting opportunities.

Bethany Volkmar, PharmD, is a current PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy resident at WakeMed. Volkmar is originally from Cary, NC. She received her bachelor of science in human biology from North Carolina State University and her doctor of pharmacy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her clinical interests include antimicrobial stewardship and the treatment of HIV. Upon completion of residency, Volkmar plans to pursue board certification as an infectious diseases pharmacist and hopes to practice at an institution with opportunities for antimicrobial stewardship, HIV transitions of care, and precepting learners.
