Antibiograms


Adopted NHSN Definition of MDR for Acinetobacter baumanii:

      a. Acinetobacter baumanii is considered multi-drug resistant (MDR) if

            i. The organism has tested either intermediate or resistant to at least one in at least three of the following six categories:

  1. Extended-spectrum cephalosporins (cefepime or ceftazidime or ceftriaxone)
  2. Fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin)
  3. Aminoglycosides (gentamicin or tobramycin)
  4. Carbapenems (imipenem)
  5. Pipercillin/tazobactam
  6. Cefiderocol 

Adopted NHSN Definition of MDR for Pseudomonas aeruginosa:

      a. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is considered multi-drug resistant (MDR) if

            i. The organism has tested either intermediate or resistant to at least one in at least three of the following six categories:

  1. Extended-spectrum cephalosporins (cefepime or ceftazidime or ceftolozane/tazobactam)
  2. Fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin)
  3. Aminoglycosides (amikacin or gentamicin or tobramycin)
  4. Carbapenems (imipenem or imipenem)
  5. Pipercillin/tazobactam
  6. Cefiderocol

Note: Multi-Drug Resistance for the Enterobacterales family is rare but can occur. The definition for the Enterobacterales family for MDR is as follows:

"Enterobacterales shall be called an MDR when it is Intermediate or Resistant to all drugs OR only one class of drugs is susceptible."
