Spondylolisthesis
Spondylolisthesis occurs when a vertebra slides either forward or backward in the spine.
Wake Orthopaedics offers the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies and techniques for spondylolisthesis to help our patients return to an active lifestyle.
Symptoms of Spondylolisthesis
Low back pain that worsens with activity is the most common symptom. However, some people also have numbness, pain or tingling in their lower extremities, as well as a limited range of motion in the lower back.
Spondylolisthesis can be caused by defects in the bone or surrounding tissue, trauma or degenerative changes in the spine.

Diagnosing Spondylolisthesis
Our doctors take a detailed history of symptoms, and conduct a thorough physical examination. We may also order imaging tests. Lateral X-rays of the spine can easily identify spondylolisthesis, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can spot any nerve-root compression.
Treating Spondylolisthesis
Initially, we treat spondylolisthesis with a combination of rest, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory medications. Epidural steroid injections can also be helpful. As a last resort, surgery may be required.
