One of the many ways we are dedicated to advancing innovation is through the Clinical Research Institute. Our Clinical Research Institute was developed to connect Clinical Research Organizations with physicians and patients to help develop alternative treatments and improve quality of life.

Participating in a clinical research study is a very personal decision. Most people decide to sign up for a study because they need additional help with a medical condition or access to an alternative treatment to improve their quality of life. By doing so, their participation will provide critical information about a new medicine, treatment or medical device that could potentially help thousands of people living with the same condition.

While each clinical trial is different, please take your time in deciding if you want to participate in a study. Read the criteria carefully, review it with your WakeMed contact and make sure that you fully understand the benefits and risks. Please know that you are under no obligation to complete a study and may opt out at any time.

Benefits of Clinical Studies

Not all studies include the same benefits, but most include:

• Free exams and ongoing medical assessments and diagnostic testing
• Study drugs and possibly the medical device at no cost
• Financial compensation/travel reimbursement

With any medical treatment, medication or medical device, there can be risks. These will be reviewed with you in detail prior to your participation.
