The Emergency Department
We understand that experiencing an accident or condition that involves amputation is both physically and emotionally traumatic. With this in mind, our team of experts is ready to provide a distinct plan of care that will guide patients and families throughout their journey. Upon arrival to the medical center’s Emergency Department, the WakeMed team immediately activates an individualized plan of care. Team members partner with patients and their families throughout their stay.
WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital
WakeMed's commitment to patient care is evident in our family friendly unit. As part of the WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital on the Raleigh Campus, the Amputee Program and team members provide care to patients having undergone an amputation in a dedicated, specialized unit designed to provide a healing and supportive environment.
The nursing units have a separate dining room equipped with a widescreen TV and computer. We also have a private dining room so that families can host birthday parties, celebrations, and other important special events while loved ones are hospitalized. Additionally, patients and families have access Monday through Friday to our onsite Health Park, which boasts a fish pond, miniature golf course, ping pong table, and multiple venues to enjoy and visit with family, friends, and guests.
Our focus on and attention to details doesn’t stop at aesthetics. Our highly trained amputee treatment team members deliver a level of care and compassion unmatched in our area. The nurses, therapists, nursing and therapy aides, case managers, physicians, and advanced practice providers are dedicated to helping with get back to your life, as quickly as possible.
Other Supportive Departments
Additionally, as result of being centrally located on WakeMed’s Raleigh Campus, patients have the added support and convenience to additional levels therapeutic care like outpatient rehab, day treatment, wound care and other supportive services during their time with us.

Healthworks
Healthworks Fitness and Wellness Center, located on the WakeMed Raleigh Campus in the Healthpark and conveniently connected to the Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital, Healthworks features nearly 40,000 square feet of space, complete with specialized exercise and fitness equipment and a team of highly-trained and compassionate staff, dedicated to ensuring a safe and comprehensive return to independence, maximum function, and overall health and wellness following an amputation.
