Application Requirements
How to Apply
Our WakeMed Surgicial Critical Care Fellowship program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and adheres to the Surgical Critical Care Match calendar (in the dropdown menu, select Surgical Critical Care Match). Matches for 2023-2024 fellowship year will be announced on September 7th at 9 am PST which is 12 pm EST.
Prerequisites:
- Completion of (or on track to complete) an ACGME-accredited graduate educational program in the discipline of general surgery, urology, neurosurgery or obstetrics and gynecology
- Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Surgery
- Eligibility to obtain a medical license in the state of North Carolina
Materials Required to Complete the Application:
- Satisfactory completion of USMLE Steps 1, 2 and 3
- Three letters of recommendation, one of which should be from the applicant’s residency program director
- Interview with the Program Director and Surgical Critical Care Faculty
Submission:
- Go to SAFAS to upload the application as well as other required materials.
Interviews:
- Selected applicants will be contacted to set up an interview date and time. Interviews will be conducted virtually.
After Acceptance:
- All selected fellows must obtain a graduate medical training license. We will contact successful candidates shortly after the match to begin this process.
Travel and Accommodations
Selected fellows will have an opportunity to visit the area before relocation. This will give fellows the opportunity to meet other fellows, tour WakeMed Health and Hospitals and enjoy some sightseeing of the Raleigh area.
From the Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) Airport, it takes about 30 minutes by vehicle to arrive to WakeMed Raleigh Campus. Taxis, car rentals and rideshares, such as Uber and Lyft, are available at the airport.
If travelling by way of the Greyhound Bus Station, it is about a 10 minute-drive to the WakeMed Raleigh Campus. Taxes and rideshares are available from this location.
