Sacral Neuromodulation

Sacral neuromodulation is a therapeutic option for patients dealing with overactive bladder, urinary retention, and chronic fecal incontinence. Commonly thought of as a "pacemaker for the bladder," the Interstim^® system uses an implanted neurostimulator to send electrical pulses to an area near the sacral nerve. This normalizes neural activity for the bladder and bowel.

Before the Interstim^® is fully implanted, the patient undergoes a test phase with the device. The device is implanted only in patients who experience an improvement in symptoms during the testing phase. Once implanted, the doctor and an Interstim^® representative will work closely with the patient to fine tune any electric programming.
