ortho Broken ArmWakeMed features the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Wake County.  Our orthopaedic trauma surgeons are the only ones in Wake County, and they bring decades of experience to treat serious skeletal injuries to the body, face, and limbs for both adult and children.

And WakeMed’s comprehensive critical care services and rehab hospital round out the continuum of trauma care.  From injury to rehab, WakeMed offers the best orthopaedic surgeons, trauma nurses, emergency department physicians, critical care specialists and rehabilitation services.

Broken Bones

Our orthopaedists are prepared to handle any type of broken bone, including “nonunions” – those that won’t heal. Nonunion fractures occur when the fracture either moves too much, is not receiving enough blood, or becomes infected.

Following surgery, our physicians will provide you with a complete program for exercise and care helping you return to normal daily activities. Other orthopaedic providers throughout our region who have patients with nonunion broken bones refer them to our orthopaedic specialists for care.

Pediatric Trauma

Our emergency department is fully equipped to treat all pediatric traumas for spine and bone issues.

Our pediatric trauma patients also have the benefit of follow-up care  provided by the experienced pediatric care providers in the WakeMed Children’s Hospital. In the Children’s Hospital, we have physicians, nurses, pharmacists and rehabilitation experts all dedicated to the care of patients under the age of 18.

Of course, the best line of defense is injury prevention.  Learn more about protecting yourself and your family from traumatic orthopaedic injury.
